Fables & Folklore
In the midst of winter, the journey of knitting a garment is as rewarding as wearing it and there is nothing quite like the feeling of a yarn running through your fingers, especially when it’s as cosy and soft as Fable, our sumptuous Aran weight blend of Falkland wool, British alpaca and British mohair.
Gentle enough to wear next to the skin, Fable’s colour palette is earthy, yet ethereal, and the brushed finish creates a magical halo. To complement the lusciousness of this beautiful yarn, Birch & Bliss (the design team that is the legendary knitwear designer Debbie Bliss and the fabulous Chloe Elizabeth Birch) have created the Folklore collection, bursting with textures and modern silhouettes that show off this incredible yarn.
Folklore contains eleven patterns that combine traditional knitting, colourwork and cabling in tanks, jumpers and cardigans.
Iris, for example, is a striped sweater that echoes the classic Breton stripe whilst playing with fun striping techniques - the dropped shoulders and polo neck make this a perfect knit for wearing every day!

Helena is a patchwork tunic that contains a concoction of cable panels, eyelet lace motifs and a deep notch neck - it’s a great mix of old and new that knits up fast in this sumptuous Aran weight yarn. Helena will be your best friend - the kind of jumper you reach for when you need comfort, reassurance and warmth.

Beautiful Guinevere is quietly one of the heroes of this collection. Chevron rib and a charming cable running up the sleeve into a saddle shoulder makes this a triumph of clever design. For photography, this sample was knitted in Elder, a warm pink-brown - it’s a heavenly shade.
Xanthe is a jumper is knitted from the top down, worked in the round, with a gorgeous fold over neckline and striking colourwork yoke. A great grab and go sweater for just about any occasion!
The Minerva scarf is a reversible knit that uses slipped stitches to create a very warm fabric, and this woven stitch is a great way to combine the colours of the palette that you love. Siren, Willow and Feather are used in the sample, but you could combine any of your favourite shades! Imagine Willow, Faun and Elder? Siren, Oak and Titan?
