Back To Basics

Back to basics - celebrate wool in classic shapes.

We’re excited to reveal our range of easy-to-follow patterns that are perfect for new knitters and beginners. These gorgeous garments use basic techniques that provide the building blocks for successful wearables, from working in knit and purl for stocking stitch and rib, to joining in new colours, picking up stitches and seaming.

In an exciting twist, each pattern contains two variations in one - you can knit these beauties in either Aran or DK weight! We’ve showcased these patterns in two of our favourite 100% British wool yarns; luxurious Fleece Bluefaced Leicester and ever-popular ColourLab.

ColourLab Aran includes rich solids and tweed variations, ColourLab DK; super solids and amazing multis, Fleece Bluefaced Leicester DK boasts lustrous jewel shades and Fleece Bluefaced Leicester Aran in three natural, earthy shades.

Patterns with simple, classic shapes are great vehicles to show off beautiful yarn - and these do just that. If you haven’t quite mastered purl, there’s a gorgeous garter stitch jumper, Wren, that will introduce you to the process of knitting sections and seaming together. If you’re ready for more of a challenge, Winslow is a classic tank-top for all occasions that is sure to help you practise picking up stitches for the neckline and armholes.

As you can see, the difference a yarn weight makes is quite spectacular! An everyday cardigan like Winnie, in Aran weight, is cosy to wear casually with jeans for long walks and pub lunches – while in DK, it is transformed into a finer classic knit that is never out of place in the office or at a special event.

There are two great knits for men - Wade, a simple stocking stitch crew neck, and for those of you who love to purl, Warren, a rugged raglan moss stitch sweater.

Two scarves provide different techniques - Winter is a ribbed scarf in a solid colour, and Walker is a garter stitch striped scarf that introduces colour changes and careful row counting. Both scarves are available as free patterns.

These basic shaped patterns are not just for beginners - knitters of all abilities love them too!
